Euro 2020 | Vazgen Sargsyan anvan Hanrapetakan Marzadasht | 5th September 2019 17:00
Italy should be too strong for Armenia when they travel to the Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium for a Group J clash in Euro 2020 qualification. Having won their last five matches and keeping six clean sheets in their last seven outings, the Italians are backed to secure a win.
The Armenians have been inconsistent in the qualifiers with two wins and two defeats from four matches. Armen Gyulbudaghyants’ men have a poor record in European qualifying with nine defeats in their last 13 matches.
Italy claimed a 2-1 victory at home against Bosnia-Herzegovina last time out in the qualifiers. They fell behind in the first half but struck back after the break through Lorenzo Insigne and Marco Verratti.
The Italians will be without injured defender Giorgio Chiellini but should have enough cover at the back with Leonardo Bonucci and Alessio Romagnoli. Andrea Bellotti and Ciro Immobile could be given the nod in attack having made impressive starts to the season in Serie A.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan is often the go-to man for Armenia but the Arsenal midfielder has looked off colour lately. He is likely to find things difficult against the Italians with the team often struggling when he is not at his best.
The Italians have built their qualifying campaign on a sturdy defence and the duo of Leonardo Bonucci and Alessio Romagnoli are expected to shut out the Armenians. They have some quality at the other end of the pitch with Ciro Immobile and Andrea Bellotti who have impressed lately.
