Arsenal and Chelsea meet in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday. These London rivals have a rich history with another entertaining clash on the cards.
Arsenal finished eighth in the Premier League, a disappointing result for the Gunners. Mikel Arteta was appointed manager in December but needs more time before turning his old club into a top four side. Arsenal beat Liverpool 2-1 at home before a 2-0 win against Man City in the FA Cup semi-finals. They suffered a 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa before a 3-2 home win against Watford. Two goals to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and a Kieran Tierney strike had Arsenal 2-0 up in the 33rd minute. Arteta will be disappointed his side let the Hornets back in the game. Goalkeeper Bernd Leno is injured alongside defenders Calum Chambers, Pablo Mari and Shkodran Mustafi. Brazilian forward Gabriel Martinelli is also injured and Reiss Nelson is doubtful. Midfielder Matteo Guendouzi and playmaker Mesut Ozil have fallen out of favour and could be shipped out of the club. Right-back Cédric Soares is ineligible.
Chelsea finished fourth in the Premier League to guarantee Champions League football next season. The Blues have won 10 of their last 13 matches in all competitions. Frank Lampard’ side won 1-0 against Norwich after enjoying 68% possession, 22-2 shots and 3.05-0.06 expected goals. They then won 3-1 against Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-finals. Chelsea lost 5-3 against Liverpool at Anfield but bounced back with a 2-0 home win against Wolves. Mason Mount and Olivier Giroud scored the goals in a deserved victory. Defenders Fikayo Tomori and Ethan Ampadu are injured alongside midfielders N’Golo Kanté and Billy Gilmour.
Arsenal and Chelsea had similar ends to the season with two players dominating up front. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored seven goals in his last eight matches for Arsenal, Olivier Giroud scoring six goals in his last seven matches for Chelsea.
