Belgium’s golden generation will be looking to progress into the final four of EURO 2020 but face a very difficult opposition as Roberto Mancini’s resurgent Italy have been very solid and hard to beat.
Belgium have been very impressive in this tournament. They have won all four of their matches scoring a total of eight goals and conceding once. They began their EURO 2020 campaign with a dominant 3-0 win over Russia with Thomas Meunier and Romelu Lukaku on target. They came from behind to beat Denmark by 2-1 and ended their group stage match with a 2-0 defeat over Finland. A spectacular goal from Thorgan Hazard was enough to see Belgium secure a narrow 1-0 win over Portugal in the knockout round. Eden Hazard and Kevin De Bruyne are in contention after picking up a knock against Portugal. In form striker Romelu Lukaku should lead the attacking lineup.
Italy have been resurgent under Roberto Mancini, winning 24 of their last 28 matches in all competitions. They had a perfect record in the group stages of this tournament, winning all three matches against Turkey, Switzerland and Wales. They scored seven goals in the group stages and are yet to concede a goal in 90 minutes. Extra time goals from Federico Chiesa and Matteo Pessina were enough to seal a 2-1 extra time winner against Austria in the knockout round. Roberto Mancini has plenty of options and might make few changes to his starting lineup.
Belgium are a poor side without Kevin De Bruyne and with the influential midfielder in contention to play, Belgium might find it hard to get past a solid Italy. Italy are unbeaten in their last 31 matches, winning 11 of their last 12 matches in all competitions. Italy have won by 2+ goals in 3 of their last 4 matches against Belgium and have also won by won by 2+ goals in 10 of their last 12 matches in all competitions.
