Borussia Dortmund vs Lazio Champions League Betting Tips, Predictions & Odds

Borussia Dortmund and Lazio clash on Wednesday in a game that could decide the winners of UEFA Champions League Group F. Dortmund lead the group by a point from Lazio with the winner of this game guaranteed to progress to the knockout stages.

Borussia Dortmund suffered a second Bundesliga defeat in their last three domestic matches when losing 2-1 at home to FC Koln on Saturday.  Thorgan Hazard scored for Dortmund when they trailed 2-0, but the game will remembered for Erling Haaland’s 95th minute miss which would have earned his side a point. There have been no such problems for Haaland in the Champions League, with six goals in four matches. The Norwegian scored in a 3-1 defeat at Lazio at the start of the campaign and has fired Dortmund to three straight wins since. Haaland scored the second in a 2-0 win against Zenit St Petersburg. He has since scored doubles in successive 3-0 wins over Club Brugge. Borussia Dortmund continue to have problems in defence with Raphael Guerreiro, Thomas Meunier and Nico Schulz all doubts to face Lazio.  Marcel Schmelzer and Dan-Axel Zagadou also remain on the sidelides. Brazilian midfielder Reinier is also ruled out after a positive coronavirus test.

Lazio saw an eight-game unbeaten run in all competitions come to an end at the weekend when they lost 3-1 at home to Udinese in Serie A. Ciro Immobile’s 74th minute goal was nothing more than a consolation. The unbeaten run started with a 3-1 home win over Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League. Lazio then drew 1-1 away against Zenit St Petersburg and Club Brugge in their next two games. Simone Inzaghi’s side returned to winning ways in the Champions League last week with a 3-1 win over Zenit at home. Immobile struck twice in the victory to leave Lazio a point behind Dortmund. In Serie A, Lazio have recorded wins over Bologna (3-1), Torino (4-3) and Crotone (2-0) as well as drawn 1-1 with Juventus during their recent unbeaten run. Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Thomas Strakosha returned from coronavirus absences against Udinese and should be part of the Lazio squad. Goalkeeper Silvio Proto, midfielders Senad Lulic and Gonzalo Escalante and forward Vedat Muriqi are injury doubts.

These two sides have met four times with the head to head at 2-1 in Lazio’s favour. The Serie A side recorded a 3-1 victory in the group opener in Rome thanks to goals from Ciro Immobile, Jean-Daniel Akpa Akpro and an own goal from goalkeeper Marwin Hitz. Erling Haaland got Dortmund’s goal in the defeat. Dortumund and Lazio first met in the 1994/95 UEFA Cup quarter-finals, Lazio winning 1-0 in Rome before Dortmund won 2-0 in Germany to advance. Both sides lost at the weekend with eyes on this game. It could decide the group winners and I am tipping Dortmund to seal top spot with a win.
