Chelsea vs Burnley Premier League Predictions
England Premier League | Stamford Bridge | 11th January 2020 16:00
Chelsea and Burnley are set to serve up a close encounter in their English Premier League fixture at Stamford Bridge. Both teams have not been at their best with a cagey encounter expected in London.
Chelsea are coming off a 2-0 home win over Championship team Nottingham Forest in the third round of the FA Cup. First half goals from Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ross Barkley were enough to earn Frank Lampard’s side a comfortable win. The Blues have been plagued by inconsistency lately having been held to a 1-1 draw at Brighton in their previous Premier League fixture. They head into Saturday’s clash unbeaten in their last three matches in all competitions and should take confidence from recent London derby wins over Tottenham and Arsenal. The major problem for Chelsea in recent weeks has been a lack of consistency in attack. Top scorer Tammy Abraham has scored just once in his last five matches while Christian Pulisic and Mason Mount have struggled in front of goal. Chelsea put out a much-changed team in the FA Cup with Tammy Abraham, Willian and Mason Mount all rested. The trio should make their return on Saturday while Ross Barkley could be pushing for a start following his goal in the FA Cup.
Burnley were victorious in the FA Cup as they overcame League One team Peterborough United 4-2 last Saturday. Jay Rodriguez scored twice while Erik Pieters and Jeff Hendrick added further goals for the Clarets. The win ended a run of three straight defeats for Burnley who were beaten 2-1 at home by Aston Villa in the EPL. Sean Dyche’s men have also found things difficult in attack lately, scoring just one goal in their last three Premier League matches. Burnley have no major injuries or suspensions ahead of the trip to Stamford Bridge. Striker Ashley Barnes was rested in the FA Cup and is expected to return on Saturday.
Chelsea have struggled going forward lately with Tammy Abraham finding the net just once in his last five matches. Willian has also failed to score in his last three appearances while Mason Mount is currently on a six match goal drought. Burnley also have similar problems in attack with top scorer Chris Wood scoring just one goal in his last four Premier League matches. Strike partner Ashley Barnes is also without a goal in his last six matches.
