Chelsea will look to get back to winning ways when they host Southampton at the Stamford Bridge for matchday 7 of the 2021-22 Premier League.

Chelsea has started strongly to the new Premier League campaign. They won four of their first five fixtures. However, back-to-back 1-0 defeats to Manchester City and Juventus will see Thomas Tuchel’s men desperate to bounce back against a winless Southampton side. Chelsea has scored 12 goals and conceded just two goals in the premier league. Following their midweek 1-0 UEFA Champions League loss to Juventus, Chelsea will look to avoid three straight competitive defeats. Midfielder Ngolo Kante is out with illness. Defender Reece James, Christain Pulisic, and Mason Mount are ruled out with injuries.

Southampton are winless in the 2021-22 Premier League campaign. They have struggled to hit the ground running yet and a trip to Stamford Bridge is likely to extend that winless run. Draws against Man City, West Ham, Newcastle, Manchester United, and losses against Wolves and Everton see the Saints sit just one point above relegation zone. Southampton has scored just four goals this term conceding seven goals. They have managed to keep clean sheets against West Ham and Manchester City. Defender Jack Stephens is ruled out with a knee injury. Stuart Armstrong, Theo Walcott, and Will Smallbone are also out injured.

Chelsea has struggled against Southampton in the past with just one win in their last five Premier League encounters (W1 D3 L1). Thomas Tuchel’s men have been underscoring with under 2.5 goals in seven of Chelsea’s ten competitive matches this season. Southampton has enjoyed a string of positive results at Stamford Bridge over the past few seasons and will aim to continue in that vein.
