Chelsea vs Tottenham Preview, Premier League Predictions & Betting Tips
England Premier League | Stamford Bridge | 22nd February 2020 13:30
Chelsea take on Tottenham at Stamford Bridge in a crucial Premier League match with top 4 implications. Both teams have been unconvincing lately and could cancel each other out with the stakes so high. If Spurs win, they will leapfrog Chelsea and move into the top four. However, three points for Frank Lampard’s side would see them move four points clear of Tottenham.
Chelsea have been inconsistent having won one of their last five matches in all competitions. The 2-1 win at Hull in the FA Cup was in the middle of four Premier League games without a win. Frank Lampard’s side lost 1-0 at Newcastle after bossing the game before a 2-2 home draw against Arsenal. Chelsea drew 2-2 at Leicester with both Antonio Rüdiger goals assisted by Mason Mount. The London club hosted Manchester United in their previous match, beaten 2-0 at Stamford Bridge where Michy Batshuayi failed to take his chances up front. Midfielder N’Golo Kante was injured against Manchester United to join Marco van Ginkel and Ruben Loftus-Cheek on the sidelines. Central defender Andreas Christensen, wingers Callum Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic are all doubtful. The goalkeeping situation could see Willy Caballero keep his spot ahead of Kepa Arrizabalaga. Striker Tammy Abraham will hope to be available with Lampard showing little faith in Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud.
Tottenham were on a seven match unbeaten run before coming unstuck in the UEFA Champions League. A 1-0 home defeat to Leipzig saw Spurs fail to take their chances and concede through a sloppy penalty.
Tottenham had won their last three Premier League matches. Jose Mourinho’s side won 2-1 against Norwich, 2-0 against Manchester City and 3-2 at Aston Villa. Spurs also advanced in the FA Cup after a 3-2 home win against Southampton in a fourth round replay. Tottenham are missing their two top goalscorers with Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane both injured. Midfielder Moussa Sissoko is also out with defender Juan Foyth a doubt. Dele Alli was hooked against Leipzig and is likely to lose his spot to Tanguy Ndombele. Japhet Tanganga could come into the side with Serge Aurier pushing forward.
Chelsea and Tottenham have been inconsistent which makes this match difficult to predict. Spurs are coming off a Wednesday night match in the Champions League which could cause some fatigue.
PREDICTION : DRAW 1-1
