Atalanta will look to return to winning ways when they travel to face Genoa at the Stadio Luigi for their final Serie A match of 2021 on Tuesday night.
GENOA RESULTS, STATS, SQUAD
A 1-0 win over fellow Serie A strugglers Salernitana in the Coppa Italia brought some glimmer of hope as an all too rare success saw them advance to the third round of the competition. However, they fell to their 10th defeat of the 2021-22 Serie A campaign after a 3-1 defeat to Lazio at the weekend. Andriy Shevchenko’s men have failed to win in Serie A since mid-September, and they currently languish down in the relegation zone – just two points above rock-bottom Salernitana. Genoa has lost their last four Serie A matches, and have won just one of their seven games under new manager Andriy Shevchenko. They are without a league win at home all season, losing five of eight and averaging two goals conceded per game. Genoa are once more set to be without Nicolo Rovella, Felipe Caicedo, and Mohamed Fares due to injury, while defender Nikola Maksimovic is a doubt.
ATALANTA RESULTS, STATS, SQUAD
Following a fine run of six straight wins in the league, Atalanta were favorites to prevail against top-four rivals, Roma on Saturday however, a shock 4-1 defeat in Bergamo put an unseemly full stop on what had been a superb Serie A streak. Despite dominating 71% possession and 17 attempts on goal, their second home loss in the last three games was inevitable. Atalanta has lost just three of their last 15 games in all competitions and they have particularly excelled when on the road, with a stunning record of eight wins and no defeats from their nine away Serie A games. Atalanta has netted two or more goals in five of their last six away trips. Given Atalanta’s superb traveling record, it’s difficult to see Shevchenko’s relegation battlers troubling Gian Piero Gasperini’s men. Atalanta will likely make use of a versatile squad for their second Serie A outing in the three days, so wing-backs Davide Zappacosta and Joakim Maehle could come in for Hans Hateboer and Giuseppe Pezzella. Midfielder Matteo Pessina and Defender Merih Demiral will be pushing for starts. Defender Robin Gosens remains sidelined with an injury.
