Koln vs Fortuna Dusseldorf Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

Koln host Fortuna Dusseldorf in the Bundesliga on Sunday. Koln threw away a 2-0 lead at Rhein Energie Stadion last weekend but can redeem themselves with Mark Uth leading the way.

Koln have won eight of their last 12 Bundesliga matches to climb away from the relegation zone. They won three in a row including a 5-0 win at Hertha Berlin 5-0, 3-0 home win against Schalke and 2-1 win at Paderborn. Their last match before the break was a 2-1 defeat at Borussia Monchengladbach. Markus Gisdol’s side returned with a 2-2 home draw against Mainz. An early Mark Uth penalty put them ahead with Florian Kainz making it 2-0 in the 53rd minute. They couldn’t hold on and had to settle for a point.
Koln have won five of their last seven home matches in the Bundesliga and won by 2+ goals in three of their last five at Rhein Energie Stadion.

Centre back Rafael Czichos is injured and Jorge Meré was not in the squad against Mainz. Tony Leistner and Sebastiaan Bornauw should continue in central defence. Ismail Jakobs could return to put pressure on Jan Thielmann and Dominick Drexler for the left wing position. Mark Uth has been influential since signing from Schalke with five goals and four assists in eight Bundesliga matches.

Fortuna Dusseldorf have stabilised since Uwe Rösler became manager in January. They have become draw specialists after four consecutive draws in all competitions and five of their last seven Bundesliga matches. Fortuna drew 3-3 at home against Hertha Berlin where they let a 3-0 lead slip. They were eliminated from the German Cup in a penalty shootout at Regionalliga club Saarbrücken after ending in a 1-1 draw. Fortuna Dusseldorf drew 1-1 at Mainz before the break and drew 0-0 at home against Paderborn last Saturday. Valon Berisha and Steven Skrzybski hit the woodwork but they couldn’t break the deadlock.

Goalkeeper Zack Steffen and forward Dawid Kownacki are both injured. Central defender Kaan Ayhan is suspended. Defensive midfielder Adam Bodzek came off the bench against Paderborn and Oliver Fink could return to the squad.

Koln do their best work at home and will be desperate to make amends after throwing away a 2-0 lead last weekend.  Fortuna Dusseldorf have been tough to beat in recent months, can they avoid defeat in the Rhine derby?
