Manchester United take on Copenhagen in the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals on Monday. The Red Devils have a big class advantage and should be able to advance in Germany.
Manchester United finished third in the Premier League after a strong end to the season. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have lost once in their last 23 matches stretching back to January. The Red Devils ended their EPL campaign with a 2-0 win at Leicester. Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring and Jesse Lingard wrapped it up in added time. Man United beat LASK Linz 2-1 at Old Trafford on Wednesday to advance 7-1 on aggregate. They fell behind early in the second half but responded with goals to Lingard and Anthony Martial. Manchester United are missing defenders Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones. Left-back Luke Shaw is battling to recover from an ankle injury. Solskjaer will select his strongest side here with Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial all expected to start.
Copenhagen had a poor season by their high standards after finishing second in the Danish Superliga. Staale Solbakken’s side finished 14 points behind Midtjylland after failing to win in six matches from late June. Copenhagen won their final two matches 1-0 at AaB and 2-1 against Nordsjaelland. They carried that form into the Europa League, overturning a 1-0 first leg defeat against Istanbul Basaksehir by winning 3-0 at home. Jonas Wind scored the first two goals on Wednesday and assisted Rasmus Falk Jensen for the third. Uruguayan striker Michael Santos missed the Istanbul Basaksehir match as he battles a thigh injury.
Manchester United are favorites to win the UEFA Europa League and should be too good for Copenhagen.
