Manchester United host LASK Linz in the UEFA Europa League round of 16 second leg on Wednesday. The Red Devils won 5-0 in Austria and should have little difficulty racking up another big win at Old Trafford.
Manchester United finished third in the Premier League after a strong finish to the season. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have lost only once since late January. The Red Devils won 2-0 at Crystal Palace before a disappointing 3-1 home defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup. They drew 1-1 against West Ham and finished with a 2-0 win at Leicester. Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring from the penalty spot in Leicester and Jesse Lingard came off the bench to score deep into added time. Manchester United are missing defenders Axel Tuanzebe, Phil Jones and Eric Bailly. Left-back Luke Shaw might not be risked as he recovers from an ankle injury.
LASK Linz finished fourth in the Austrian Bundesliga after losing their last three matches. They lost 1-0 against Wolfsberger, 3-1 at Rapid Wien and 3-0 against Salzburg. LASK are missing injured centre-back Markus Wostry, left-back Marvin Potzmann, midfielder Lukas Grgic and winger Thomas Goiginger. Manchester United were far too good for LASK in the 1st leg with a convincing 5-0 win in Austria. The Red Devils had 56% possession and 22-9 shots including 10-0 on target. With a stronger team likely to be selected and home advantage, the Red Devils should have the bulk of the opportunities once again.
