Newcastle United host Chelsea in the English Premier League at St James’ Park on Saturday. Chelsea will be looking to continue their hot run of form when they meet an inconsistent Newcastle.
Newcastle’s last month in the Premier League has been ambivalent to say the least. A 4-1 defeat to Manchester United was followed by a promising 1-1 draw with Wolves, before beating then league-leaders Everton 1-0. Unfortunately for the Magpies, they were unable to string successive victories as they went down 2-0 away to Southampton before the international break. Newcastle sit 13th after the opening eight weeks of the Premier League. Newcastle will again be without striker Dwight Gayle. The forward is yet to make an appearance this season due to a knee injury, with the club hopeful of a December return. Jonjo Shelvey will also be unavailable after undergoing a hernia operation, while goalkeeper Martin Dubravka will again miss as he nurses a heel injury.
Chelsea have flexed their muscle over the last few weeks. The Blues recorded big wins in the UEFA Champions League over Krasnodar (4-0) and Rennes (3-0), before defeating Sheffield United 4-1 in the Premier League. Chelsea have only lost one match in the Premier League – a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool – and sit fifth on the table after eight matches. Chelsea fans would have breathed a sigh of relief when they saw Ben Chilwell return to full training this week. The 23-year-old injured his back in England’s win over Belgium but is a chance to line-up on Saturday. The Blues will also welcome back Kai Havertz, who missed Chelsea’s wins over Rennes and Sheffield United after testing positive for coronavirus.
With the table so tight, Chelsea will want to make a statement against an inconsistent Newcastle. A win for the Blues could see them end the weekend on top if results go their way. We are backing Chelsea to continue their impressive run of form and come away with a win to nil away from home.
