Nigeria Vs Cameroon Betting Tips & Predictions

Cameroon continue the defense of their crown when they take on Nigeria in Alexandria on Saturday.

This round of 16 tie features two of the most successful nations in the history of the competition and is being billed as the heavyweight clash of the round.

Holders Cameroon have five Africa Cup of Nations titles to their name whilst Nigeria’s most recent of three triumphs came in 2013.

Both sides finished second in their respective groups and were less than convincing on their way to the knockout stage.

The Super Eagles come into the match on the back of a shock 2-0 defeat to tournament debutants Madagascar.

They opened their account with 1-0 victories over Burundi and Guinea but have failed to dominate any of their opponents so far.

These results mean Nigeria finished Group B with a substandard goal difference of 0, after scoring twice and conceding the same amount of goals.

Cameroon began their campaign with a conclusive 2-0 win against Guinea-Bissau. Goals from Yaya Banana and Stephane Bahoken sealed the victory.

They then followed up their opening win with consecutive goalless draws against Ghana and Benin and finished second in Group F, behind Ghana on goal difference.

Clarence Seedorf’s side have been underwhelming at this year’s tournament so far. They lack an identity going forward and haven’t been particularly convincing at the back.

Nigeria and Cameroon have struggled for consistency and the neighboring countries will both be looking to make their mark on the tournament with a convincing win on Saturday.

The head to head record between the two teams favors Nigeria. The Super Eagles have won 11 of their 22 meetings, with Cameron registering just four wins in reply.

Their most recent match in this competition was a quarter-final tie in 2004. Nigeria claimed a 2-1 victory that day, with AFCON legends Jay Jay Okocha and Samuel Eto’o both getting on the scoresheet.

Nigeria will be without the injured John Obi Mikel for their next match. He suffered a knee strain against Madagascar and could miss the rest of the tournament.

Mikel looked sluggish in the group stage and fans were quick to point out that the 32-year-old looks past his best.

It’s tough to pick a winner for this one. Both teams have been out of sorts but will no doubt be looking to up their game for the knockout stages.
