Liverpool will endeavour to make it two wins from two in the 2021-22 Champions League when they travel to the Estadio do Dragao for Tuesday evening’s Group B clash with Porto.
Porto opened their Champions League with a goalless draw against Spanish side Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano. The match was never one for action as both teams lacked a cutting edge in the attacking third. Porto managed only five shots and saw red in the dying embers of the game. Porto sits second in their domestic league with 16 points from a possible 21. They have scored 16 goals this term conceding just four. Head Coach Sergio Conceicao will host Liverpool with a fit squad to select from. Defender Chancel Mbemba is suspended. Pepe went off injured during the weekend and is a major doubt.
Liverpool began their 2021-22 Champions League with an entertaining 3-2 victory over Italian giants AC Milan. They opened the scoring via a Fikayo Tomori own goal but quickfire goals from Ante Rebic and Brahim Diaz saw them trailing at the break. They started strongly in the second half with Mohamed Salah scoring the equalizer in the 48th minute. Jordan Henderson scored a brilliant volley to see the reds snatch all three points at Anfield. Liverpool are unbeaten this current campaign with four wins and two draws to sit top in the premier league. Jurgen Klopp will be without injured trio Thiago Aalcantra, Naby Keita, and Harvey Elliot as they remain sidelined. Robert Firmino came off the bench in their last game and could replace Diogo Jota in attack.
Porto are currently unbeaten this season scoring over 2.5 goals in five of their last nine matches. Liverpool has scored more Champions League goals against Porto (11) than any other side during Klopp’s reign. Liverpool has won four of their last five Champions League group away games. Mo Salah has scored in his last five Liverpool appearances and is tipped to score here again.
