All road leads to the Parc des Princes as PSG host Manchester for a Champions League blockbuster. PSG will aim to avenge last season’s semi-final defeat to the citizens.
PSG have made a perfect start to their domestic league with eight consecutive Ligue 1 victories. However, they could only manage a 1-1 draw against a resilient Club Brugge side in their Champions League opener. The Parisiens with the sight of Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe lining up in the same PSG team couldn’t grab all three points. Midfielder Ander Herrera opened the scoring in the 15th minute before Brugge captain Hans Vanaken leveled the scores before halftime. Despite 61% possession and 11 shots, Mauricio Pochettino’s side couldn’t grab a winner. Head Coach Pochettino is hopeful that Messi will be able to recover from a knee injury in time although still highly uncertain for the clash. Marco Verratti, Sergio Ramos, Layvin Kurzawa, Juan Bernat, and Colin Dagba are also expected to remain out for the time being. Angel Di Maria is supended.
Manchester City continues their Champions League campaign against French giants PSG. The citizens made a great start to Group A with a 6-3 thrashing over Leipzig. They completely dominated the game with 57% possession and 17 shots. Nathan Ake headed in the opener in the 16th minute, an own goal and a Riyad Mahrez’s penalty gave them a comfortable 3-1 lead at half-time. Second-half goals from Jack Grealish, Joao Cancelo, and Gabriel Jesus completed the scoring for the citizens. Pep Guardiola’s men are with six wins from their last seven in all competitions scoring a whopping 24 goals in that time. Midfielder Ilkay Gundogan and Oleksander Zincheko are ruled out with injuries.
PSG have scored over 2.5 goals in eight of their last nine competitive matches. However, they have underperformed against the Citizens with two losses from their last three meetings. City has also kept five clean sheets in their last eight and that could prove to be the difference here. The Citizens should hold firm against a PSG side who are likely without Lionel Messi and who look shaky in defense.
PREDICTION: MAN CITY 2-1
