Tottenham vs Liverpool Premier League Predictions
England Premier League | Tottenham Hotspur Stadium | 11th January 2020 18:30
Tottenham are aiming to keep their top four hopes alive as they host Liverpool in an English Premier League fixture at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Spurs are expected to be fired up for the visit of Liverpool and can match the Reds with the tactical nous of Jose Mourinho.
Tottenham were held to a 1-1 draw at Championship club Middlesbrough in the FA Cup third round. Lucas Moura struck a second half equaliser for Spurs who had 71% possession and 18-10 attempts on goal. Manager Jose Mourinho has lamented his team’s defensive vulnerability with Spurs conceding first in eight of his first 12 matches in charge. Their impressive attack means they often find their way back into most matches. Tottenham head into Saturday’s fixture unbeaten in their last eight home outings in all competitions. Tottenham will be without striker Harry Kane who is set for a spell on the sidelines. Tanguy Ndombele, Ben Davies and Hugo Lloris are also out injured. Forward Son Heung-Min should be thrown into the starting lineup after making his return from suspension at Middlesbrough.
Liverpool are coming off a 1-0 victory over Everton in the FA Cup with Curtis Jones getting their goal. They also triumphed 2-0 over Sheffield United in their previous Premier League outing thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. The Reds continue to set the pace in the EPL as they sit 13 points clear and are yet to lose a match all season. The one criticism for Jurgen Klopp’s men has been a slight vulnerability at the back, particularly on the road where they have conceded in six of their last 10 away matches. Midfielder Fabinho and defender Joel Matip are back in training but Saturday’s match could come too soon for the duo. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain made his return from injury against Everton and is in line to feature at Tottenham.
Even without the injured Harry Kane, Tottenham still have enough quality to trouble Liverpool. Dele Alli and Son Heung-Min have combined for 11 goals this season while Lucas Moura’s pace is likely to cause the Reds problems. The one problem for Spurs this season has been in defence having failed to keep a clean sheet in eight of their last 12 matches. They are likely to struggle against Liverpool’s dynamic attacking trio of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.
